What we do:
New Lens works to create systemic change in the areas of justice, education and health. We work with young people and art and media to help bring a youth perspective to issues that impact their lives. Examples of our current work are as follows.
Education. A group of young people uses video as a vehicle to explore issues around education for an audience of youth and those who have an interest in educational change. Watch our Videos.
Justice. New Lens young people work collaboratively with the police department to design video and trainings for police officers, which increase police sensitivity to young people. Watch our Videos.
Health. We work with the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health to create print materials that promote healthy food choices in teens and lower income populations. This is part of an initiative called Healthy Eating Zones. We also work with Planned Parenthood to create media about contraceptive health. Watch our Videos.
Instruction. Young people offer workshops and classes to youth in schools and after school programs who want to learn art or media production or want a peer led workshop that deals with social issues such as healthy relationships, contraceptive health, homophobia, police youth relationships, race and diversity issues and more.
